At the Winery

Ross Shelmerdine established Mitchelton in 1969. The Ryan family, of Jayco caravan fame, acquired the winery in 2011. Today, with its distinctive tower and luxury hotel, Mitchelton is a recognized icon of the Victorian wine landscape.
Mitchelton's Nagambie vineyard is enveloped by the meandering Goulburn River, which alongside other nearby waterways, moderates the site's warm climate. The unique alluvial river sediments found in their soils produce generous yields. They specialize in Shiraz, Riesling and Rhône blends. They also source grapes from their Toolleen Vineyard at Heathcote – planted entirely to Shiraz – as well as grower partners across Victoria. In their vineyards Mitchelton are committed to sustainable practices.
Mitchelton's top wine is the Print Shiraz. Toolleen Single Vineyard Heathcote Shiraz is not far behind. At Mitchelton they seek to unlock the best from each block and soil type with meticulous attention to detail.
